Notes About The Poem

At last some rain for our thirsty land!

It's Raining

At first dark clouds
then a droplet fell.
Gathering strength,
small puddles
appeared
and began to swell.
It's raining! It's raining!
My neighbor joined
in my cries.
Is it the rain,
or tears in my eyes.
I reached out
my hand
as if to grasp
the heavenly spigot
to make it last.

Another uplifting write! Rain replenishes, as do so many of your fine verses. Be well. Brian

Good question: 'Is it the rain or the tears in my eyes?' -- Maybe a little of each! Happy Fourth of July, Gershon

Thanks for commenting, Gershon. I believe they were tears of joy. It's amazing how so little rain can make the desert bloom.

Dear Ann, I love rain, and I love poems about rain. In India, poets write about rain using magical sound-vocabulary, because it rains a lot there. Your poem brought me that ecstatic feeling! Love ~ Mala

Oh, thank you, Mala. I know India has the monsoons. I read a beautiful book about Inda - can't remember the title. Anyhow, it talked about how India put in a pipeline to pipe too much water to places that have too little. Why aren't we that smart?!

I am so happy you have finally gotten some rain, Ann. Rain? Tears? Either will do in this situation! Nice writing.

Thank you, Milton! Of course, one rain won't cure our ills, but it may save some of my bushes :)
