It's Just Me and Our Angel
like a warm wrap around my shoulders
this home caresses me in the dead of winter
its silence a persistent weeping of your absence
the gaping void of missing your voice your laughter
and how you would gently call my name
perhaps we were strong but we weren’t alone
throughout the years we had a confidante
who heard the prayers we’d pray
i'd light a candle and silently pour out my heart
as we combined our strength to fight your cancer
right up that is until we could no longer
this angel spirit was always by our side
especially as you walked your last mile
so now you’re gone and i’m alone but
our angel stayed behind to walk along with me
and i’m grateful because it’s not been easy
this loyal angel by my bed
holds the candle i light each night
as i open the gate to welcome the memories
let them surround me and come to life
as i close my eyes to join you
in the vivid reality of my dreams
