It Was the Best of the Best of Times

It was the best
of the best of times.
We were in love
and did not care
about anything but each other.

Nothing else mattered.
No one else mattered.
It was all about us.

We did not care
about our favorite things
anymore, we had a new favorite thing - us.

We selfishly lost ourselves in each other,
speaking of future plans,
and goals we had shared with no others.

We lost ourselves
gladly and completely,
turning from two into one.

I breathed him, and he breathed me.
We gulped each other's essence
down, in big hard gulps.

We immersed ourselves in
the essence of "being in love".
The rest of the world did not matter.

We were on fire,
we were focused,
we were fascinated.

By the oneness of ourselves,
which had risen like a phoenix from ashes.
It was the best of the best of times.
It was our time

Isn't that just how it is when you meet your soulmate. Tom

Thank you, Line. I appreciate it, and I do not usually focus on "in love" type poems, but others seem to like them the best.
