It started with a stamped canvas Long, long ago, long, long ago To be prettier than dianthus Finished it'd put on a great show Long, long ago, long, long ago The embroidery done in detail When finished a lesson bestow Remembering now the tales I could tale A few stitches remain to be sown 'Pon that piece started when you were born Long, long ago, the project blown Gone with job of rearing firstborn Could it be finished for another? My arthritic hands are crippled 'Tis hard to do stitches, I'd rather Still hold you close, but not smother Long, long ago, long, long ago Is not today, what will matter later I really can't say, as you still grow Possibly become an arbitrator

Thank you, Cecilia. I appreciate the visit. Sara K..The one that I was talking about is still not finished. I started before my first grandson was born and I would work on it when I could, but he took more and more of my time so it still is not finished. So like my life. Sara K

I take it as what you think of an art prescibed for women. and mixed with what we become as ourselves. Artful in it's discription.

TS, yes, the backside of the canvas is not very appealing at all, but then turn it over and it is a work of art. Thank you for dropping by . Sara K

Is it the hand embroidery you have done? It looks gorgeous. Sorry, you couldn't finish it because of arthritic hands. However, the empty canvas is now filled with a vase of beautiful flowers.

Valsa, that picture is not the one that I was working on. It was of a mother bear telling the baby bear, because I said so. I only liked a few stitches being finished with it and it has sat in my box of embroidery work for years. I looked after one grandson then the other grandson but the last one his mother looked after him. Thanks for dropping by. Sara K

Your poem about the passage of time and the changing priorities in life revolves around your reflection on a long-unfinished embroidery project and the shifting focus from that to the responsibilities of raising a child. The word choice in the poem is so reflective, creating a nostalgic and contemplative tone. Good luck with the contest.

Love this: Long, long ago, long, long ago…I can relate to the pain of hands. Young people believe it’s the old people crafting but if they are it hurts! … Long, long ago, the project blown Gone with job of rearing firstborn…yes things often come into play and we prioritize unselfishly…God bless!

Kim, I was speaking about our first grandson which I was supposed to keep for 6 months until they would take him in day care, but the day care did not come into fruition. Anyway, I need to get that piece and finish it when I have some good days without so much pain. Sara K
