It All Came Down To This
He forwarded my mail, and added a note to say,
"I no longer care what you do, or how you are"
I stared at it for a moment, then threw it away.
It all came down to this, it had gone too far.
On an envelope addressed to me.
He scribbled out Mrs.and wrote Ms. instead.
It was in big letters, to make sure I would see.
What childish thoughts going round in his head.
I laughed out loud, though not his intent.
He had meant it to hurt my heart.
Making me laugh, the gift of this comment.
Perhaps his plans were coming apart.
I realized that I no longer knew this man.
Or maybe I never knew him at all.
I would never be able to understand.
How and when had he become so small?
