Is This My Peace
Is this my peace
I ask myself?
With one ear I hear the breeze
Rustling through the leaves
Of the majestic arbutus trees.
With the other I hear
The choppy ocean waves
Crashing against the rocks below,
As I lie up above
On my rocky throne.
My eyes are closed as I soak up
The sun’s rays, it’s warmth
Enveloping my lightly tanned skin.
The pleasure boats below,
Had they looked up to see....
A hound and a girl running the rocks,
Like nimble footed mountain goats,
To reach the highest of thrones
Upon which I now sit taking it all in.
Thoughts invade my head
Like an army, trying to destroy
That which I have achieved.
Is this my place, my destiny,
Is this where I live out my final days?
What better place could there be,
This heaven on earth?
I ask myself.
So far away from the noise
Of concrete and pavement,
Rushing here and there
With the busyness of life!
The alternative is so inviting
Yes, this is my peace,
Absolutely, no convincing required!
