Notes About The Poem

Is It Normal

is it normal to sear the soul
to let the dormant hate control

Is it normal to mar the mind
with daggered words dipped in "unkind"

Is it normal to hunt the heart
with gleeful zest to maim a part

Is it normal to lampoon love
make it a joke; give it a shove

Is it normal to deaden dreams
out of some envy laden schemes

Is it normal to negate nice
claim that its fake then take a slice

Is it normal to insult ideals
to devour each in packaged meals

if normal's not in one of these
then read the next lines, if you please...

"business as normal" is just pretend
when hurting's not been brought to end

For acting "normal" when one bleeds
Can never clear the painful deeds

The only way to make amend
is to forget the "normal" trend

So be sincere; apologize
own up to wrong and empathize

then back to "normal" things can go
and better still, I tell you so!

Hi Elieen, You are soo good at writing thought provoking writes. This write was no exception. It pulled the reader and made them think. After much pondering my answer is "No" it's not normal. Excellent job:-) Alexis

Excellent philosophical pondering, Eileen. You spark the mind w/thought provoking assertions. Mental and spiritual exercise is good for the soul. Powerful poem. A POTW nominee in my book. Love and joy always.

Yes, Richard. Sounds like a plan. Sometimes people wonder why things aren't the same...how can they be when there has been no attempt to right a wrong. Wounds just don't go away...they need ointment. :) Hope all is well, dear.

Thanks, Jo. Didn't know how worn out I was until I got here. We have spent the day indoors catching up on things that enrich our souls. Tomorrow...the beach! :) Hugs
