Irreconcilable Paradox
“Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them?” Shakespeare asked.*
I suspect we are living in just such a time, indeed,
When we must weigh the irreconcilable paradox:
Whether one or the other is a better course to take
For a nation festering internally over flawed values,
National purpose, and deep systemic divisiveness.
We need leaders who are willing to do the hard work
Of governing with compassionate strength,
With level-headed articulation of the national will,
While recognizing we will always face good trouble!

Hamlet by William Shakespeare)
