Irrational Understanding
Those Irrational numbers used in maths,
They lead to understanding what's real,
Those numbers rationalise all that we make,
Like building a perfectly round wheel,
With pi and e and the Golden ratio,
And of course the square root of two,
We can now create everything,
Though Pythagorians thought it taboo.
And how irrational numbers, with a small leap of faith,
Made us logical, stable and wise,
Like the small leap of faith in an irrational god,
When he sent down those three little wise guys.
Yet we try to rationalise the bizarre,
The whimsical, nonsense of insane,
Though it can’t be defined in maths or a bible,
Or in a simple quatrain.
