Notes About The Poem

Written June 10 2025 for Pick A title volume 52  Contest sponsor Edward Ibeh

Intrusive Thoughts

Dare I share my intrusive thoughts
Once suicidal in a mood so dark
I actually tried to stop my heart
Using vitamins to sin with life to part

It was a low that got so deep
Manic tide had overcome me
Was hearing voices in trilogies
Mad as I was bipolar buried

I recall walking outside
Collapsed in the sunshine
Barely recall ambulance ride
Feeling lost wanting to die

Intrusive thoughts from deep hell
Kept me lost and so very unwell
I was a boat without a sail
Within my mind in a prison cell

Lost many months in a ward
Though so sick poetry still soared
God used doctors nurses to save
A crazy little poet from herself that day

Wonderfully composed, harrowing write, Karen. Is this true? If so, I'm glad you made it through the dark, trying times. Heartiest congratulations on your win in my contest!

It’s not something that I am proud of. It’s true. The first time I tried to end my life was childhood due to sexual abuse. I didn’t keep the pills down however my little body threw them up.
