Intimate Once Again

Power down the device
  Fire up your pencil and eraser
The act of writing intimate once again
  A cozy booth for two in a candlelit café

Pressure to produce ebbs away
  Like the tide retreating from the shoreline
Thoughts flit in and out of consciousness
  Butterflies emerging from their cocoons

Contests, prizes, glory all pale 
beside the discovery that is yours --
  As you grip your pencil
  The machine loosens its grip on you
