Interference
They looked for him here
They looked for him there
They looked for Bin Laden
Almost everywhere
But he never was hiding
There in Afghanistan
It just gave them excuse
To overturn the Taliban.
That gave the people freedom,
That gave the people hope
And free from their tyranny
It gave them more scope.
Twenty years later with
The ever mounting cost
And the decision to withdraw
All that was suddenly lost.
Helpers abandoned with
The too familiar hasty retreat
And the faltering campaign
Turned into humiliating defeat.
Having tried to enforce their will
Once again the arrogant West
Left behind a state of chaos
Having suddenly lost all interest.
.
Bin Laden had been found
Hiding in near by Pakistan.
The people have been returned
To the tyranny of the Taliban
Twenty years of hope and effort
All suddenly gone to waste
Are we surprised that it has
Left such a bitter aftertaste.
