Inspiration Taps Softly

Sometimes late at night as we succumb to sleep
We greet creative thoughts beyond those of counting sheep

It’s said Thomas Edison held coins in his hands
That clanged into a bucket noisily as planned

Stirring, he was intrigued by notions for invention
That seemed to emerge from a different dimension

It worked for him and if you enter an alpha state
You, too, may find this source of inspiration great

For it is this exercise of the mind unwinding
That serves to recount the day, subtle reminding

Of the joy you found when beholding a flower
And the thrill of discovering nature’s power

Or the touch of a hand from one who reaches out
When a vulnerable heart is mired in doubt

And the scent of loved ones’ perfume on a pillow
That permits our longing memories to billow

The sounds and tastes of each long day also emerge
As slumber takes charge and begins its nightly purge

So keep a pen and pad at bedside as you retire
Knowing that inspiration is likely to spire

I especially identify with this poem, and agree with it's concept. Each new advance in mankind's developement comes from the depth that you bring out, so clearly, Carolyn. Congratulations on your second round win. Agape, Moses

T%hose last two lines are all too true, my dear. I know them well. Thank you for your kindness. By the way, this here would not be at all bad for a Broadway or classic old Hollywood musical lyric. Regards, Gerard.

Nice poem, absolutely right, though for me it only works for stories, not poetry.

You are such a skilled writer and know exactly how inspiration works. My muse appears when least expected whether I have a pad of paper or not I have to write. I can always find a pen but I have been known to write on napkins, leaves (not easy), and even the back of the electric bill...LOL! Thank you for your kind words on my writing and for being such an inspiration to me to work harder on improving my writing skills. Best wishes to you in the contest. Smiles from Lolita

Had to come back and read in light of the sad news today about John... your words are prolific and so intense ..reminding me that life is from one breath to another with nothing for sure... I think of John and the contest he is sponsoring too and it pains me to think this tragedy has now occured in his life.. his career was escalating too.. so your words speak of the moment we get inspired to write .. same moment could be our last .. thankxxx for your great blog comment on my blog too..
