Innocence Of Youth
Acquiescing to love's defeat,
you hold your sad feelings within.
And as passion's flame flickers out,
anxieties slowly begin.
Dominating reality,
tears flow with emotional force.
And wash away the promises,
that kept your hopes and dreams on course.
The weight of betrayal hits you
with the clout of a speeding train.
And you're left spinning in a trance,
oblivious to all but pain.
Fueled by half-truths and deceit,
your happy thoughts begin to ebb.
And soon, your vulnerable heart
falls victim to depression's web.
Your soul's susceptible to lies,
for love camouflages the truth.
And salvaging remnants of trust,
you shed the innocence of youth.
