Innocence

Don’t kill me for the color of my skin!
Don’t point your gun at my heart,
Can you not remember our childhood days?
Has our friendship gone in vain?
The children we once were,
Our lives came into existence clinging to our mothers,
The day that our innocence was birthed
Relying upon the milk on which to feed,
Flourishing love through understanding,
Kept safe in the bosom of nature
Learning through our playful ways,
Where did your violence and anger come from?
“Look it’s me! Your friend! Your brother”
The boy you once knew and loved,
My heart bleeds from your disrespect for life,
We were born to live, born to love,
“What went so terribly wrong?
Can you hear the sounds as my heart cries?
Oh God please forgive him! He’s my friend!
Could we go back once again into the womb of our mothers?
Safe from the evil that abounds!
I hold out my hand to you!
Forgive me!
