~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A stray eyelash drifts onto the page~ this poem began as a grocery list. Milk, eggs, then why do stars collapse? The pen pauses. Words are slippery trout in a shallow creek. I chase them barefoot, bruising toes on stubborn stones. Sometimes they leap into my cupped hands, gleaming. Other times? Silence. Just the clock’s metronome and the stubborn drip from the kitchen tap. Still, I return. The list can wait.
