Notes About The Poem

INK OF HINDSIGHT

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I reached into the river of my mind, palm upturned like a beggar, and pulled out~ not a coin, but a rusted key that fit no lock I owned. What was I thinking? Perhaps the same thought that turns a moth to flame~ not light, but burning. The arithmetic of longing always carries forward a remainder. What was I thinking? Maybe it was the way the train whispered destinations I’d never reach, or how the moon, that night, hung like an unpaid bill. What was I thinking? The answer curled at the edges, a photograph left in rain~ half desire, half shadow, all of it dissolving into the ink of hindsight.
I really enjoyed this! Especially, " how the moon, that night, hung like an unpaid bill" and how it trails off smoothly in the last stanza. +fav
When the time comes, we act appropriately and learn from the consequences. That was my first impression of your poem. Your poetry is both informative and captivating. It may be tiring to spend too much time thinking and making decisions.
I appreciate your visit, insights, and comments, Sotto. I agree--most of us learn from acting inappropriately. I also agree, life should have some level of spontaniety. Overthinking can be tiresome....balance is the key, I suppose. Texas hugs, Sara
Too many days to remember, too many thoughts to ponder on, reflections about choices can drive one crazy. When a moment arrives, we do what we do, then live with it...my first thought after reading your poem...Frederic
