I think this is okay for some, a nightmare for others. Maybe this is why my first name means so much more now.

My daughter in law chose to keep her own surname and though at first I didn't understand I do now, absolutely and love her more for it. Blessings Swetha, Jennifer.

Ah yeah the custom to change the surname after marriage ah it's sad come to think of it. I never changed my surname after marriage, because I was too proud of my daddy's name. Kudos for a soulful superb poem. Pls do read and comment my newest poem too.

It's really chilly but reality in some part of the world and a right given to 'them'. I can understand that desperation. Well penned. :)) Sunita UPD

Emotional ending! Who is “they” and why is her name being altered? Marriage? If so many keep their own for a variety of reasons. Customs can be changed.
