Indulgence
Indulgence
The old and wise have always said some pleasures lead astray
I end up struggling very hard to keep them all at bay
Despite my best efforts, I have sometimes also found
That instead of being high up there, I've remained on the ground
Smoking we are always told, is dangerous to health
And gambling never, ever, assures any great wealth
Alcohol and drugs, will give a short-lapsed high
The pleasures of women's breasts, will run your pockets dry
In all my life, I'm yet to find a man without a vice
In Solomon's wisdom, the Bible was quite precise
Women he loved so much, a thousand he kept for himself
Will it be wise today, if I do same for myself?
Of all the vices warned against, most are guilty of two
And how to give them up, they're yet to have a clue
I've never ever fancied smoke, not to mention drugs
I've however always loved beautiful women's hugs
In youth, with diligence, I had slowly built my mind
By reading almost every book, my eyes and hands could find
I regret the endless time I now spend at the pub
Instead of reading wide, while soaking in my tub
The line between good and bad gets blurred every day
As between black and white, we now also see grey
Between right and wrong, the divide is almost gone
As between night and day - the wee hours of dawn
It seems no rights or wrongs, where these vices are concerned
Indulge yourself in moderation, this I have also learned
Since moderation in the love of women can only be faithfulness,
I therefore have one legal vice - drink, but not to drunkenness.
