I hear much joy in the music, View elation in the dance Feel happiness in the laughter, Soulful spirit in poetic romance. I feel love in the language Swelling in my heart. Reverence for God and Goddess In beloved families far apart. I love the customs and the people As they celebrate each day Living life to the fullest In their honor I wish to pray That I may learn to be as humble As loving and as kind, To be blessed by elder wisdom In every senior that I find. This is a gift to give my children To open their sleepy little eyes. To see the value in rejoicing, To reach for stars up in the skies. When they learn this knowledge To listen well to the sages, They will know of sacred secrets Handed down through the ages. © 2014 Connie Marcum Wong

Thank you Paul. I kind of feel that poetry was born in India. If I were younger I would want to travel there and maybe even live there. But age is creeping up on my knees which makes travel difficult now. There are. some wonderful poets here that are Indian who I feel a kinship with, like you do. That is what makes Poetry Soup the best! hugs, Connie

Beautiful poem about India and its people, Connie. We do well to learn about different cultures and what they have to offer. My cousin spent many years helping the poor in India, and she only stopped due to ill health; she only had words of praise for the Indian people. On Soup I am lucky to have become acquainted with several worthy poets from India; some of them have commented below!:) // paul

India described so beautifully through your words Connie. Not sure if I'll ever get to India, but if I ever do, it'll be to a place called 'Karnataka' lush green and like other places, quite amazing architecture. Love this piece, James :)

The cultural diversities of my country often enchant the visitors by the richness of its Colors, Music and Joys but they needs to have an open hearted approach to see and enjoy its real beauty. Your Poem beautifully paints all this & it goes as my most favorite one. Thanks Connie once again for your kind & precious words on my Blog dated 17th Oct about my Short Video Film. “The Secret Story of Mulberry Birds”. Your appreciation of my Short Video Film is an honor for me. L& BWA.Ravindra K Kapoor

What a beautiful poem you have placed here dear friend Connie. For all those, who love Music and Dance and love the beauty which also lies in other cultures and customs, India can really be a gem of a place for them. Your poem paints a lyrical beauty of my country, where happiness quite often sprouts like a smile even in extreme poverty without caring for the luxuries of life and enjoying life to its best as it is available. Great poem on a subject I find quite fascinating. Always wanted to travel to India and Australia. Both are on my bucket list. Your words on India are uplifting but the caste system there is its greatest problem/detriment. Super 7 on this wonderful write..

Thank you very much Robert. I am not aware of the bitterness that dwells among the poor in America, in India. I am only writing of my limited experience, but would love to spend some time there one day. Australia is wonderful. I lived part time in Sydney for a few years and loved it. I hope you get to fulfill your bucket list. Thank you, Blessings....Connie
