Delice, It is a type of turnip. In the UK called a Swede. They are waxed to protect them from spoilage I guess or at least water loss. They are a very hard root vegetable and strong flavored but I like them occasionally. If we grow them in the garden, they are much better than when they are allowed to grow so large. I appreciate your visit. Sara

The wife ate and enjoyed them (as well as rhubarb pie), but I have always believed vegetables are for deer to eat and deer for people to eat. . .

Rico, Well, some people are more of a meat kind of person and some enjoy fruits, seeds, nuts and grains. I think a mixture is good for the human body. I am glad that you know what it is at least. Thanks for your valuable comment. Sara

Michelle, When I did go to the store to do my own grocery shopping I would try to get two small rutabagas which a easier to handle. Sara

Michelle, LOL..I like them sometimes for a change to eat with some kind of pork in the fall and winter months, however, they are extremely hard to pare(peel) and hard to cut up. They are a very hard and awkward to handle to pare then very hard to cut up. My husband offered to cut it up for me but I told him to take the dog out for a run. Thanks for the visit. Sara

Victor, Here we called then Canadian Waxed Rutabagas. They are a type of turnip. They grow in cool to cold weather but when a freeze comes it kills the tops. It is like turnip root but grows much larger. We plant them in the garden here some years but nothing is planted out there this year because we were sick with COVID during the fall and winter vegetable planting season. We will have to buy those items this winter. The rutabagas from the garden are much nicer and not as hard and I believe much milder in flavor. Your visit is uplifting. Sara
