In Us All
Apparitions in the mirror's throw.
Look! Look, at the mirror’s toll.
Seek, but do not see the image given,
for it is but shadows of the living;
this reflection is not whole, not whole.
There lay no picture of the soul.
Strive to see the inner grace--
mirrors show but the face-
the skin, the hair, the shape of nose,
not depth, but contour is all it shows.
Beauty held here within hidden
beyond the image, the image given.
Behind the glass the silver sheet;
behind the eyes the spirits meet.
Behind the eyes! Behind the eyes!
Here lies His love, the heart of Christ.
