In the Temple
The undeserved mercy I have obtained
Is not of the mace or any power temporal
It was not given by the profane emperor
But this clemency has given me rights
To enter the temple and sit on the pew
The spirit sees your judging hearts
That challenge the content of my supplication
And the direction I must face to pray
You say my face is not solemn enough
Nor my words adequate to ascend beyond the ceiling
You say I shut not my eyes in prayers
And clasp not my hands in contrition
When mercy is not secular then
It matters not if I had eaten the bread of sin
And sipped rum laced with iniquity
Mercy is of God Himself
