Notes About The Poem

In the Stars

"Solos come and go, but riffs last forever." ~ Keith Richards

Mick and Keith just came out with a single,
and they say it's a pretty good jingle.
That's why it makes sense
that these elderly gents
have "Rock and Roll Legends" on their shingle.

A kid when they rose from obscurity,
now I've reached a state of maturity;
or said another way,
as of this very day,
I'll be taking social security.

The Stones say our destiny is in stars
to the tune of Keith Richards guitar;
and if you ask me,
I'd have to agree,
just because we've all made it this far.

Very nice, I like your approach. I've always liked the Stones & thought I knew all their songs. When I watched this one on YouTube, they were incredibly young singing an obviously older song that I don't recall. A lot of times when there's a knock upon my door, I can't resist, "I hear you knocking but you can't come in." The shingle bit & much else you included made an enjoyable read. I'm not sure how to approach the contest and don't want it to become a beast of burden.

Hi CayCay, nope - it's a new song. That video on YouTube is AI! Maybe it could become Wild Horses!

I like the way you expressed this David, esp. how you subtly (or not so subtly) show how much more advanced in age Mick and Keith are than you. lol. Ha, ha. Joke's on them.

Haha, yep, don't lament getting old - find someone that's older and laugh at them! 😀
