In the Space of a Day
In the space of a day,
There are routine activities that seem meaningless in context,
Greetings of “hello”,
Encouraging emails,
Poems in honor of friends,
Afternoons spent rushing home to fix dinner for one’s family,
Literature reviews for articles on empathy that few will read,
$.30 of kindness to a schizophrenic smoker,
Waving at residents while collecting garbage,
Meticulously crafting thank you notes,
Time spent making copies for co-workers,
Phone calls made to clarify misunderstandings,
In the space of a day, these routine activities seem meaningless in context,
But in the aggregate,
In the aggregate, subtle moments become revolutions,
And isolated notes, in the space of a day, become a symphony!!
