In the past…
Mingled with joy and hope,
There is pain, confusion and doubt
Dread that breathes mystery,
Melancholy and fear – anxiety
Expressions of a moment
When darkness followed so near
In the past…
Where silent tears
Fade into the whispers
Breathless waves of conviction,
Hesitation – uncertainty
That questions even the best
Dreams, the most promising wishes
With suspicions, skepticism –
Mistrust that abides in the heart
In the past…
Uneasy feelings rained clouds
Billows of worry, veils of fury
Aching to destroy aspirations, plans
Suck out the optimism and faith
With phobias and frosty smoke, shadows
Erasing all the joy and wonder
The hope for a life filled with promise
In the past…
There was dread – despair
But now… after all these years,
I can honestly search through the problems
Find inspirations amid the melancholic
See elation shimmering in the hazy horizons
Feel the laughter stirred to life inside a soul
Who knows the miracle of letting go
Moving on… seeing the past for what it was,
A milestone, a landmark, a sign…
Pointing toward the present day,
Where I ventured - and chose to stay
In the past… there was pain
But, now, in this moment…
There is reassurance and grace,
There is the miracle of blessings
Poured out on this life, this place…
Where I knew strife, but now know
The brilliance of a fresh new light…
A energy and excitement that comes to one
Who believes and trusts – His love
A sign from above…
That the past has gone
And I can keep moving on!
