In the Name of God

Since the beginning of time wars have
been fought in the name of men’s gods:
crusades against evil and injustice
but too often a case of “we’re right - you’re wrong”
with each side both judge and jury
I’ve stopped wondering if there’s a god
and decided long ago to live my life
assuming there’d be a day of reckoning
when i will stand behind the life i’ve led
and have no shame and no regrets
There is much to be said about
religion being one colossal mountain
that we cannot expect to conquer
when in fact we can explore its many faces
and probe its paths less traveled
In a way we’re all at the helm of our own crusade
by trying to lead a life that’s good and righteous
