In the Midst of a Maelstrom

In The Midst of a Maelstrom

My emotions are consuming like wildfire.
Once elated, now, my body is burning.
My mind was once my friend,
now unspeakable thoughts torment my soul.

I rage, and I shake... trembling with fear.
   Questions consume me,
focused on a particular thought,
   like paralysis, I am locked.

Yet, beyond the whipping hair,
  and the deafening noise,
I see a glimmering light,
in the midst of a maelstrom,

Where there is faith, there is no fear.
  and the seas die back,
and sheets that I tore that became my slumbering chains,
now release me from my nightmare,
and Jesus stands there, with comforting arms,
   and calls my name.

I am reminded when facing a storm,
God does not give the spirit of fear.
God gives the spirit of strength,
  of sound mind,
and of love.
  Surrender,
and like a hurricane, walk to the center.
  There, you will find him...
His majestic peace...
  authority over all things.
