Notes About The Poem

Written 20 March 2026 for 1454 Poetry Conest Sponsored by Braian Strand

In the Labyrinth of Fate

a multitude of paths
         unknown unwind under my feet
an intricate maze of choices
          lie before my dazzled eyes
I try my best to grasp
           which turn is right
which route leads astray
which lane leads to my goals
but cannot truly decipher
            with any grain of certainty

the walls are high
            the shadows tall and deep
subtle solemn secrets
           hide under winding hallways
I search for light in form
           of a glowing guiding gleam
to follow in this ever turning
             perplex maze
but find none that will solve my fate
              before my journey is done

after a deep breath
           in the sacred solemn silence
I close my eyes to the surrounds
           gaze within myself
to make out the centre of this maze
           where the road begins
decrypt the way out
          of the tangled labyrinth
without stumbling down
the depth of a profound precipice

soon a clear light glows
	  within my inner self
signalling to me the path
	  I need follow
through winding alleys of thorns
	  shrubs, spines and serpentine lanes
across uncharted uphill spaces
	 in the wide open sky
under the shine of a scorching sun
to reach the goal of truth

I strictly follow
	 the direction of the light
viewing it as my destined fate
	 to tread rough rugged roads
braving all odds on the journey
to exit out of the labyrinth
 reach the dear destined destination
	 as an accomplished man
bearing the marks of life
	lived in loneliness.
