If only ...
if only I could weave life, legitimate
into the charmed tapestry of a sweet night's dream ...
gossamer tendrils of misty, imaginative meanderings
the fragile twirl of a dear love, reborn ...
vital as life, callow heart thrumming, anew
yet, feet to a furtive path path I can not follow ...
if only I could braid a reality sobering enough
to divest the unspeakable horrors
of a dark eventide's nightmare ...
brought to wake in wailing dread and dismay -
eyes soaked - marrow cold.
Must there be one or the other?
Both rend my being, merciless and brutal,
both leave me raw as a wound,
and both will haunt me ...
forever.
