Mark Toney's Picture Prompt How quickly time transforms lives from youthful days of innocence to having lived through decades of happiness and burdensome trials. Fortunate, if in the eyes of our progeny, we are appreciated as family. If they see us and hear us, it means we've earned a place in their lives. One, that someday will be only a memory, hopefully one that makes them smile.

Lin, thank you for supporting my Picture Prompt Poetry blog. Your poem is featured in my ‘Results’ blog, which is up and running. How important it is to spend time with our progeny so they can “see us and hear us.” “Earning a place” in their lives is priceless. This is a Fav for me.

Lin, you can only imagine how much I love the last line! We do hope that we set a good example and provide the necessary nurturing and support. We can give that gift and then sit back and watch what happens. I've heard people speak of their relatives with great fondness. It does make me smile (as does your poem)!! Over the past couple of decades, I've thought that working with others can really be a wonderful thing. Yet, many people seem to dread it.

Thank you, Duke and I know exactly how you might feel about my using 'smile.' It's become your living mantra in your comments. Sadly, we live in an age of human disconnection unless it's on some form of electronic device. That's not a viable substitute for what is lost in eye to eye and heart to heart contact. Thanks for your comments and smiles.

When I was little, everyone in my family got along. There were at least 30 of us that would gather for a picnic in Audobon Park each Spring. Now, years and generations later, many of my closest family members have moved away and there are cousins who've never met. I smile thinking of those days when we were so many, having so much fun. Thanks for reading me, Ink.

Lin mate, this is so touching. There’s such quiet wisdom in your words. ‘If they see us and hear us, it means we've earned a place in their lives’ really struck me, so simple, yet so profound. You captured the bittersweet beauty of time and importance of family so gracefully. All the best with this entry.

Thank you for your insightful thoughts, Billie. Respect for and from family members is important. It's not for a contest... written for Mark Toney's picture prompt. See his blog.

It's comforting to know that we will one day be a happy memory for our families, hopefully not too soon. Tom

Family love and loyalty is so dear to me, Tom. It's always a sorrowful tragedy when there is a falling out. I would love to think no one in my family would remember me with a frown.
