Origin of the universe, discussed.

In the beginning In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. This is probably the most widely read, yet misunderstood sentence in literature today. These are the opening words found in the Bible, in Genesis 1:1 So what does it mean? Exactly what it says, the heavens (that is the universe) and the earth were created, in the beginning, by God There is an ongoing struggle between scientists and creationists, they are both locked into intractable arguments, that don't seem to be able to co-exist, and for good reason. Creationists propose that the earth and heaven were created in six literal days. Science disputes that for obvious reasons. However, have all of the options been heard and discussed? Science has empirical evidence that the universe is 13.72 billion years old. So then...that was the beginning of creation. So Genesis 1:1 is in agreement with establish scientific proof of the age of the universe. So the next logical question is...was it a big bang from a random non-directed source or was it the beginning of creation from a intelligent designer? I will discuss that topic in a future piece! Leave your thoughts on this subject, if you wish! April 1,2018 John Derek Hamilton

My thoughts are.......The "beginning" refers to what God created......namely time. GOD was in eternity where time does not exist. HE created the heavens and the earth apart from eternity. We have movement, friction, wear and tear, growing old etc. I believe in Gen. 1 & 1, the word, beginning, refers to the creation of time and of course all objects contained in the realm of time. As far as I know there is no information on the beginning of eternity.

That is a very interesting and well thought out comment, thanks Chuck. I enjoy thinking about eternity, most humans cannot grasp it, but as you stated God does not dwell in his physical creation, and time is man created in the sense that we are subject to the natural laws that he put in place. I enjoyed your perspective, thanks for the visit!

Meaning, (without further detail), it is absolutely possible that "creation" spoken of in the Bible is the exact same thing that science supports. There are MANY "believing" scientists who have explained it in similar ways, and I don't quite know why others can' t get their heads around it ... I think it's because they just don't WANT to, as it conflicts with atheistic ideas. Just one silly guy's opinion. ;-)

Exactly! Well-said, John, and I think you nailed the paradox with it all - man wants to think that he is the ultimate power, I think ... I think our selfish nature ensures that, to a certain extent, when it's clear to me that NOTHING happens that is coincidence, but rather every little happening in our daily lives was of a divine plan and intent. We are surrounded by miracles - how can they ALL be happenstance?!?

You're a pretty smart silly guy... as I mentioned in another comment, there are reasons why people refuse to see intelligent design in nature, and it has to do with their nature... rather than intelligence!

Even Richard Dawkins has stated publicly that no one understands how life came from nothing. I started to read Dawkins (proof) of evolution and he spends the entire first chapter describing how many priests, bishops, and even the pope accepts it as fact. Sounds like intellectual peer pressure to me. Dawkins has a book called the blind watchmaker to explain the origin of the universe, so then...who is the maker that is blind that directed it all...in the beginning?

I believe time is relative, and certainly that the time conveyed in the Bible is also relative. The Big Bang happened in an instant, with the Universe going from nothing to expanding outward at the speed of light, and those original texts responsible for the Bible were written by men with absolutely no conception of time in relation to quantum theory, so it make sense to me that it would translate in ways that don't draw parallels or develop in a linear way to the progression of actual science.

I thought you would comment on this Greg, as I know of your studies of the cosmos, I too am fascinated by it. Stephen Hawking once said that if science takes God out of the picture there's no human reasoning that can understand the origin of life from nothing.

It all depends on what you believe and what you follow, everyone is different and that is why we have so much indifference in this world...

True, I think many people don't WANT to believe in a creator because THEN they would have to obey him and MOST do not want to be subject to ANYONE...must be a reason nature teaches there is an intelligent designer, and some try to find a way around it. Thanks for the kind comment!

Man was created by God, and science was found by man... Lol! It's all I'm saying!

Some arguments are never won or lost..this is one of them. In this vast universe there is room for both. But my vote goes to the scientists.
