Oh, yes. I remember that. Or am I just imagining remembering that. I think I really am. I'm also remember a Tom Waits song, Barber Shop.

Hi Gershon, good nostalgic poem of days gone by. I remember my two younger brothers back in the 60’s going to the barber with the striped barber pole outside his shop. Their faces were beet red as they were crying getting their first crew cuts. They had a children’s chair that was a little fire engine. Those were the days. Shalom :)

Poled Barbershops were not only a place for hair treatment, but they were places to socially gather and shoot-the-breeze (place a bet too) -- the new generation zones out on a dumb screen. I miss local joints and horse talk. B..., in the 7th.

Witty and to the point, dearest Gershon. Blessings.

My barber has a "barber pole" and a row of seats complete with daily newspaper and seasonal conversations...ah, the snip of the scissors, the hum of the trimmer...

I always thought it nice to see a barber poles so a person could recognize where they could get a haircut without having to inquire or search to find a barber. A woman that used to do my hair also did men's hair and she was trying to find a pole to put up at her shop, but I never saw one go up there. Thanks for sharing this one with us. Things have really changed since the barber sign went away. Sara K
