In Simple Black and White

THE FIFTIES
WHEN
MOST THINGS
WERE SEEN
AND HEARD
IN SIMPLE
BLACK AND WHITE

WHEN FAMILIES
HAD THREE CHILDREN
ONE TV
ONE BATHROOM
ONE CAR
ONE TELEPHONE
AND WERE ONE

IN SUMMERS
WHEN ONE WAS HOT ALL OVER
AND PEOPLE MADE LOVE
IN POOLS OF PERSPIRATION
TREADING WATER
SURROUNDED BY THE HAPPY SOUNDS
OF CHILDREN AND COMMUNITY

TODAY ONLY THE FEW
KNOW AND ACCEPT
THAT IT IS BETTER TO
LIVE IN THE SIMPLE LIFE OF ONE
THAN TO TRY AND TAKE
EVERYTHING IN
IN ONE LARGE GULP

NO ONE MOUTH
OR STOMACH
IS LARGE ENOUGH
AND NO WCs
CAN HOLD
THE WASTE
OF TODAY’S SOCIETY
