In Praise of Four

Oh, how I adore
the versatile number four.
Four sides to spare?
Make a little square.

Still, the question begs,
just how many legs
best furnishes a cat,
a dog or...rat?

Any bird that sings
always counts his wings,
so, he can say,
"I have four today".

Do not be glum
and count your thumb.
You have, fingers, four.
Now, celebrate once more!
