Notes About The Poem

In My Skin

In my skin,
I'm proud and free!
This beautiful dark skin
I was born with
And live in
Fills my soul to the brim
With unadulterated pride;
Notwithstanding
A few scars
and discolorations.
Through my chocolate skin
Captivating stories
Are revealed.
Look closely and you'll see
Some parts have seen better days,
But the imperfections
Both seen and hidden,
I welcome,
I accept.
This beautiful dark skin
Of mine, I'm so proud of;
Glistens in the sun
when Vaseline
Is smoothly rubbed into it.
I live in it, and always will.
It makes me who I am.
I love being Black.
It's beautiful, as they say.
In my skin,
I'm proud and free!

It would be nice if everyone were confident and proud of their skin, their body, their life. Love yourself for if not, you cannot love anyone else. :) Linda

I never judge anyone because of his skin. I am not much in contests lately. I wonder what contestants will write.

You should enter contests more, Victor:-) I see you racking up wins left and right! As for my upcoming contest, there are so many different directions to take the "Skin" theme.

I like this! Good for you! After all, we're each in the skin that God gave us. What could be better than that?! ~ Peace and Tranquility
