In Love

The dark, seedy bar. Casual conversation. A stolen glance; those blue, soulful eyes. A first kiss; a first bite. Somehow knowing that it would not be the last. I feared to go too fast. Been there done that. But you were different somehow; was the feeling mutual? That first night when we touched skin to skin was enchanting. Your touch, your feel, your smell…your taste. My soul became entwined with yours and then the sadness… Belonging to another, never mine to possess. Would that be good enough? I doubted it could ever be. But hope abounds and soon came the word I longed for; Free. Now my mind engages with my heart. Do I dare ask? What if I am rejected? Hope gives way to fear. The heart wins; isn’t that always the case? I try to be considerate and perhaps a bit coy. What would you say? What did you think? Did you also feel the connection? How long would I await an answer? Days? Weeks? What if there is someone else? What if… Only hours and you said yes. My heart stops for a moment. My mind races to catch up, to process. Did you really say that or did I just hear what I wanted to hear. But it was real; Yes. The joy and happiness jumps within me even as my eyes weep tears of happiness. Days pass. Glorious time spent in emotional ecstasy. A friend becomes a partner and lust becomes love. The bond is so strong as to be overwhelming at times. Unbreakable. Undeniable. Your past full of sorrow and disappointment, anguish and suffering, void of love. But now I have you in my heart and my arms. The misery is over. I will protect you. I will love you. You are as much mine as I am yours. And together only happiness is our future. Nothing can change the past. But I promise you a future. In love.
