In Front of An Audience

Some people on stage
Speak without the fear
Standing on the stage
Speaking out calmly
To an audience
Some recite poetry
They have no fright

Performing first time
Is nerve racking
Making them feel scared
It takes time to feel calm
In front of an audience
To perform a show
Or to give a speech

It makes me wonder
How the people feel
If calm or nervous
While they perform
Playing piano
Doing broadway
I have ponder thoughts

Hi Darlene, I can relate to this poem very well. I remember as a youth I had to sing lead in front of the church, the music started to play and I was overcome with nerves. It paralyzed me so that I couldn’t move.I can still recall the panic I felt as plain as day on that in particular day. I enjoyed the read:-) Alexis

Hello Alexis Y. there are many people tha can speak in front of an audience without fear. some can not do it at all. When the wind bles your papers it was spiritual. Hugs Darlene.

Darlene, great write, and so true, I recall at my grandma's funeral having to speak in front of a full church, I was trembling, and a breeze took my pages away but oddly I had the whole thing memorized and when I started to speak I stopped trembling, people said later, the floating papers were very spiritual _Constance

You are so very right Darlene to point this out it's a gift of confidence or exhibitionism As most people suffer from crippling stage fright

This is a great piece, Darlene!! My friends used to call me a 'bathroom singer' because I rarely did speak or sing when there was a crowd. In an enclosed, private space they say I did it well.

Good question. My kids grew up in Wales and therefore with singing and reciting for the Eisteddfod. They did well, but I always felt for the more anxious ones. It must have been quite an ordeal. Kind wishes, Kai

I think "Performing" would be SO nerve wracking. As a teacher, you get over feelng nervous speaking. I remember, however, as a youth, I had to give talks in church and I could feel the top of my lip twitching or my eye. I'm glad I got over that! Nice poem, Darlene.(but I took guitar and never got up the nerve to properly play it for my classes, and now I have forgotten all the lovely strums and notes i learned to play in my 40's)
