In Another Time

I lay here awake,
Thinking about the joys of life.
Happiness that is all around me,
And the deep and passionate love I feel.
The kind of love you only see in the movies.
And I am overwhelmed, consumed in emotion
As I lay here smiling,
A smile that comes from deep within my soul,
Radiating happiness and warmth.
I am happy in this time, in this moment.

In another time

That could have been me.
That may have been my life.
But not in this time,
Not in this moment.
All I've ever know is heartache
Dark grey suffering
The cold sting of misery and rejection.
And I am left with my dreams
The dreams of what it could have been like
In another time.
