Imaginations Maze

Hugh lived inside imaginations maze. The fire-breathing monster marked her game. Her lion’s head and serpent’s tail she’d raise. While gazing in his eyes, hot breath took aim. Each glance beyond his window was the same. Mosaic thoughts traversed inside his brain. No guardian from Heaven ever came. Reality was warped by terror’s chain. Distorted visions horrified his heart. Colossal dreams, unwanted, took control. And at midnight dark clouds of evil start. Yet never could caregivers soothe his soul. His loving wife, his angel, doctors said. She in the garden walked and talked with him Delirium his diagnosis read. The outlook for his future seemed so grim. At quiet times, his monsters liked to tread. Chimera often came in one big blast. His sanctuary feared not evil’s dread. But when his doctor saw, he was aghast. Two guardians from Heaven joined the show. With flaming sword one struck Chimera’s face. He flipped her on her back and struck death’s blow. They flew away with Hugh leaving no trace. 2/16/2017 Written for Nayda Ivette Negron’s Poetry Contest: Chimera World
