Imaginary Friend

Faith was her name None of it was her fault yet still it was only herself she did blame Gained an imaginary friend Someone to be with her until the bitter end Created an imaginary magical place Where she and her imaginary friend would play to escape such a dreadful, dreary space Tears filled her eyes She'd dry them quick and wouldn't let them see her cry Wicked was reality Not a mere technicality Horrific nightmares They hear her screams yet seems no one cares No monsters lurking in closets or under the bed They're real not make believe, they lived with her, not at all in her head Oodles of excuses Even with long sleeved turtle necks and pant legs she couldn't hide all the bruises Blank stares One by one they all turn to walk away,it's too much to bare No safe place to hide Trusting no one else it was only to her imaginary friend, Hope she did confide Felt there was no place to turn to Reactions of others left her feeling disheartened and even more blue No miracle, no saving grace Stood weak yet strong with hope she did embrace Secret keeper Things she told only to Hope and burried within herself unimaginable scars that cut deeper and deeper Sneak off to church Prayed beneath and carved a cross with her name and Hope's into that tall, strong birch A guardian angel, Hope wasn't an imaginary friend at all Waited to take her home and was there to comfort her through each and every fall Birch became the site of her grave Also a reminder to all who stop or bring flowers to break the silence and like the tree standing tall and strong like Faith, hope to make a difference and be more brave
