I'M Confused

We have a hundred brands of bubblegum
In the shops that line our streets.
We have thirty-five flavors of potato chips
For those with waistlines to increase.
We have cars and trucks of every size
To set our hearts aglow.
We have numerous streaming options
To watch our favorite shows.

We produce videos to show our many friends
When a sibling hurts themselves at play.
We have a myriad of schools and colleges
To rack up a debt we'll never pay.
We have a lifestyle to make the Angels cry
And instill in them a dose of Earthly pain.
We have more coffee shops than you can count
With caffeine to soak our shrinking brains.

We have such arrogance and hubris
To cause our neighbors fear and dread.
And we all have to possess an extra phone
Because we like the color red.
So with our Nation blessed with such abundance...
I have to question why
The very simple act of forgiveness
Remains in short supply?

                  The End

Priceless question. I guess 'I forgive you' is just too low-tech and not 'splashy enough' these days, eh?! Faith and Strength (along with a healthy dose of skepticism), gw

The most 'woke' people in our culture display such an ignorance of forgiveness... its mind boggling. Stay frosty my friend.

Dare I say that both you and Milton are right. It’s a bit of an egg chicken thing. We perceive that somehow those in poverty are somehow unworthy of the help due to their personal choices. Therefore both them and us are in need of forgiveness. Some act without forgiveness to placate their guilt and may in the process learn to forgive and be forgiven.

I saw a program on T.V where a reformed drug addict talked about what it was like when he was using. I don't judge anymore. If they want five bucks... I give it to them. Have a great day.

Forgiveness is at the heart of Christianity, and therefore should be an important part of the lives of Christians. Your heartfelt poem poses a question that is of monumental importance. Best of wishes.

I agree. It is not complicated. You cannot move on until you forgive otherwise you're just fighting the same 'war' over and over. Have a great day.

My question is: in a nation of such abundance, why can we not take care of our poverty-stricken, hungry, and sick people adequately? That first, for me, and then I'll talk about forgiveness with you. Good writing, David. I hear what you're saying, but, we must get our priorities straight!

I disagree my friend. Before anyone gets the power to tell another person what to do... forgiveness should be part of their personality. Without that... well... that explains why things are the way they are. Have a great day.

Hello David ... absolutely. There is so much forgiveness waiting for humanity to indulge in but selfishness rules at the present time - thanks David - Lindsay

People claim they don't need no 'stinking religion.' I would differ. The lack of compassion for another's point of view is very telling.

What you have said in this nicely scribed poetic piece is the unadulterated truth.
