I'M a Survivor

Our family heartbroken when my father died
Looking back don't know how we survived
Must be an invisible hand that was our guide

Staying with strangers I swallowed my pride
Living at mercy of those who could provide
Looking back don't know how we survived

Dreaming of college quite starry eyed
Yearning to succeed as my mother advised
Living at mercy of those who could provide

A long time our family collectively cried
The essence of survival took us on a ride
Yearning to succeed as my mother advised

Endurance won over putting hurdles aside
Took years but we made it to the other side
The essence of survival took us on a ride

Don't wish on anyone such unwanted slide
Our family heartbroken when my father died
Took years but we made it to the other side
Must be an invisible hand that was our guide

Death of a parent is very hard on a family. It takes time to grieve, work out the void in their lives, and find a new way to live. You have expressed it very well in this Terzanelle. Way to go. Reads like a good contender to me. Sara K

A very touching narration. When your father- the bread winner of the family died, I can imagine the sudden twist of fate you had to endure. But with dogged determination you defeated fate and have come back to life as a victorious survivor. Great theme and great presentation, Vijay

Vijay, I just love this poem. What a well written Terzanelle! I can really relate to this too and will save it as a favorite. You certainly are a strong survivor :) I do know about the invisible guide and human angels too from what I have been through. Take care.
