I'Ll Be Seeing You
I have a song meaningful to me forever
it was not mine to begin with
but my mother's
I'll Be Seeing You is the name of it
she loved that tune so much
and I am not sure why really
for it is a sad song to me
with such longing . . .
the nurses at the hospital told me
that even when someone is in a coma
they perhaps could still hear voices and music
so I played my mother that song she loved
over and over and sang the words to her
until she took her last breath
hope she could hear it and me
I even arranged for it to be sung at her funeral
and there was not a dry eye . . .
a year later on the anniversary of her death
I was lying on my bed quite forlorn and missing her
the radio was on and exactly at 2 pm
the time my mother passed that song
I'll Be Seeing You was playing on the radio
that same old song she loved
I took it as a message from my mother
and whispered . . .
Mom, I will be seeing you in everything
that is bright and gay . . . forever
