If You Were Here

IF YOU WERE HERE

If you were here with me right now,
Oh, how life would be different.
I’ve missed you since the time you went :
Our time would be so richly spent.

I’d tell of steps I had to take,
(If you were here with me right now)
Seemed important for their own sake,
And try to explain each mistake.

We’ve been separated so long :
Things I could put right which were wrong
If you were here with me right now;
But you can’t hear my voice’s song,

So my good intentions each day
Are worth nothing - as hell’s roadway
Is paved broad with them - you would say,
If you were here with me right now.

Oh man, those phrases that begin with if... killer, as you captured with rawness I admire. Write on, Syd ~N

That haunting repeated verse is one I have often sung in my head.....how different things might have been. Deep impact lies in each word of your poem.
