If You Were a Melody

If You Were A Melody

You would twirl around, in a diamond gown.

You would sip pink tea under a tulip tree.

You would live in a castle of fairy dust, and in my love, you would always trust.

You would hold my hand under a stardust moon and whistle to me a quiet tune.

You would dance on tiptoe through warm melting snow
to tell me secrets only you should know.

You would play George Gershwin's Rhapsody In Blue. Your favorite color,
 ... elegant blue.

You would float like the lilies at Giverny, and to my heart, you would hold a key.

This is a beautiful, musically induced poem of love. I very much like the imagery and the reference to George Gershwin.

Thank you so much for your lovely comment. It made me feel good. Unfortunately, I have not been able to write for a few months and I miss it so much. I do not smoke or drink and I walk a mile 3 or 4 days a week and I m not heavy. Despite all these things, I suffered a mild stroke in March and do not have the thinking yet to write. That is why I was surprised to find your nice new comment

I love this poem. It is so lighthearted and a little whimsical. Just the title alone inspires. Well done Marikate.

Hi Karen. Thank u for your nice comment. I had a stroke back in March and since then have not been able to write poetically. Supposedly by October, 'll be as good as new. I'm not a smoker or a drinker so it was unexplained. It just cheered me up to read your comment.

Marikate, this poem hits all the high notes for me (if you'll pardon the musical pun). I am a fan of Gershwin, Monet, and melodies, and just adore sweet little romantic poems that feel like they could be written inside a Valentine's day card. So glad I found this gem today ~ John

Never too late! I appreciate your reply. Nice to know there is another fan of Impressionism out there. My favorite painter is Renoir.

What a very nice thing to say. I studied art for a while in college and learned then about French Impressionism. I speak some french and love to paint so it is fun to write French artists. My replies are sometimes months a or a year later late. As a beginning writer, I used to forget to respond. Probably too late now. Thought I would try anyway. I loved your musical pun!

Gosh, this is sweet. Sweeter than honey, for my money. Kudos, Gershon
