Notes About The Poem

For the Dealing In Time Poetry Contest of Joseph May

If Time Were Money

“Time is money” people will say.
Imagine though if this were true:
if time were actual money.
To make it work, what would we do?

What standard would everyone use
by which one’s time would be measured?
Wasting time might be worth a dime
while gold would be one’s time treasured.

Would there be banks for one’s time saved,
and what would that mean anyway?
Would it mean one’s lifetime prolonged
like “saving for a rainy day?”

It’s wise to save money, but time
is currency that has an end,
so use it well each chance you get.
That’s better than time poorly spent!

This prompt was super for reflecting on and writing about. It's a more common preoccupation ... as I get older. Time just sped up along the way. Congrats, Andrea!

Yes. I think we all think of it and write about time the closer we get to the end of it

Andrea, so many questions, questions .... I dunno. Kidding, Good rhyme full of poetic ponderings. Many clever lines. I'm writing mine now, I don't think it's what he wants but it is what I would do from my point of view. Pls explain Xavier contest, it can't be Hollander, she's rated XXX. Again, I am contest confused, huh? what?

Valuing our precious time - good message. When you mentioned banking time, it reminded me of my old job, where you could roll over unused vacation time from one year to the next. I was stingy with my vacation time, just like with my money - lol.

Time is the hottest commodity we have. I forget the name of the movie where they use time as currency but your poem reminded of it. Enjoyed ready!

Well thought out and well written work for the contest. Yes, your time is money or gold because once you spent it, it's gone. This one reads like a good contender to me for the contest. Thank you for dropping by with congratulations on placing in your contest. I am honored that I am on your winners' list. Sara k

I enjoyed reading your wonderful "If Time Were Money" write. Wish we could save time like we can save money. I need 2 to 4 more days to the week. "Good Luck" I did, "Time Tell Me Your Story." Have a great day writing away............

Witty verse. Enjoyable to read. Why people in the Western World have become so acceptable to fiat money (govt. created currency) is bewildering, but then, isn't that what Socialism is about?

Cash is king. I really fear digital currency. That will be the end of our freedom
