If Only - The Crush

If only you knew . . .
that day and night I think of you.
But you are oblivious to how I feel.
Is this love I’m feeling even real?

If only you knew . . .
that I try to have you always in my view.
Whenever I’m at school, I watch you from the side.
Sometimes I daydream you’re my groom and I’m your bride.

If only you knew . . .
when school gets out, I wonder what you do.
I wonder about the places you might go,
and the things that you enjoy. How I’d love to know!

If only you knew . . .
how I yearn to touch you; you don’t have a clue.
Those warm brown eyes; your handsome face.
Every inch of it, with my fingers I would trace.

If only you knew . . .
when I’m in your neighborhood, I pass through,
hoping you might be outside your house, for me to see.
If not, I wonder where it is that you might be.

If only you knew . . .
the many nights I play my records, feeling blue.
knowing that for you, I probably do not exist,
and only in my dreams, have we ever kissed.

Andrea, indeed you captured how we can form a crush and fantasize over someone. I remember thinking in a similar fashion (silly me). Do you think this is just limited to young people and teens? I suppose it depends on brain wiring. Hopefully, we grow and become more reality based, but who knows.

Andrea, you have really captured the ambivalent angst of a teenager's unrequited love, the daydreams and fantasies. This poem is so real. So many teens would relate to it as do adults who went through the same experiences as teens. Love the repetition of the theme at the beginning of each verse and your very creative rhyme scheme. Hope you are well! Blessings.

Dear Andrea, I’m reading so many wonderful poems from this theme and enjoying them especially yours. I love this one on teenage love. We can all relate to this in some way. Like dear Sara, I too, love the structure of your poem as it gives the reader time to reflect on each stanza and the agony of young, unrequited love. Watching from afar, dreaming, hoping, hanging around, emotions of playing records, ( bringing back memories) You have poetically captured the angst of it all.

Andrea, Love, grace, and poetry have the power to change the world, and your moving words show how this is possible. Your lyrical poetry is like sunshine: it dispels all shadows and spreads delight.

The two poems on this subject which I've read are personal. Mine goes outside its shell. Which is best? Yours is the result of your great talent, full of emotion, and love. You still have memories of your childhood love. Time to stop feeling blue. Best for a win, you deserve it. Hugs.

don't worry. I am not feeling blue. if I am thinking of the right poem, that other one is just made up. This one here is how I felt for many of the crushes I had throughout my high school and junior high school years. It's hard to love someone that does not even say a word to you! Let's see one of yours that is personal, Victor. I am sure you have written some already!
