The dilemma facing battered wives.

If love is a battlefield

When sarcastic words
are launched
like glass hand grenades
Shattering your dignity,
you're bruised,
battered and afraid

When coming home
fills you with a
dreadful trepidation
When your words
walk on eggshells
trembling in expectation

When every word
you utter, puts you
in imminent danger
When the man you said
you'd love forever,
is now a total stranger

Chorus

If love is a battlefield
then,
somethings not right
Home should be
a safe haven,
not cut like a knife
Oh,
if love is a battlefield
and there's a cry
in the night
It's time
to seek shelter
the choice is
fight or flight

When a question
ignites a fire
and the flames
lick your skin
Your hope burns
to the ground
your spirit dies within

When your courage
and your value
have packed
their bags and left
All you want
is some comfort
and a simple day of rest

Chorus

You bravely,
put out the fires one by one
Thinking tomorrow
will be better,
when today is done
but,
When the bottle
is his best friend
your battle can't be won
Unless he agrees
that the whiskey
is his real enemy
Never, ever,
will you have peace
and be truly free.

Chorus repeat
fade

The never-ending saga of love/hate relationships, well played John. Now I have Pat Benatar stuck in my head.
