Laughing Gull | Bird Gallery | Houston Audubon

If I were a seagull I would live near the ocean, you would never see me in the city begging; oh no, I would be drifting on ocean breezes, hovering on waves and plunge diving for a fish. Would call to my life mate in a loud laugh like shrill, and together we will gather vegetation for our ground nest; in the early mornings we walk a warm sand beach, inquisitive with our long bills seeking small creatures. Finding an ocean breeze I let it take me gliding, over the aqua ocean to float and swirl and fall; perhaps finding an island to court my true love, then, leap into the air and fly away over the water. Calling ha-ha-ha while resting on floating debris, fluffing up my grey and white feathers in the sun; spreading them out to stretch and flapping happily. then- away, away with the endless ocean currents. If I were a seagull . . . that is _____________________ January 22, 2021 Poetry/Personification/If I were a seagull Copyright Protected, ID 01-1323-049-22 All Rights Reserved, 2021, Constance La France Written for the Standard contest, If I were a ? sponsor, Mystic Rose Rose, Judged 02/04/2021 Submitted to the Standard contest, All Yours (Feb5) Contest 912 sponsor, Brian Strand, Judged 02/06/2021

Beautiful work, and I wish you much success. I wrote "If I were a jukebox" but then realized it wasn't eligible! Oh, well, I wasn't particularly inspired by the themes offered. You were, and fantastic job, too!

Loved this beautiful poem, Constance. Especially some of the lines are just magical - " then- away, away with the endless ocean currents." Best wishes, Mala

Kim, thanks for visiting, I put that in because of the fact that the oceans are full of floating debris, but it does provide a resting place for birds like seagulls _Constance

Exploring with the eyes of seagull--flying high like the bird. Beautiful poem, Constance.

It is such a great idea for this contest! "then, leap into the air and fly away over the water." Lively and fun to read.
